Open Art Studios 2010
Saturday, Oct. 2 & Sunday, Oct. 3
"hands-on art"
Open Art Studios is an annual arts event that invites the public into the studios of working artists, giving the community greater access to visual art and to reveal the artists’ role in the greater community. Open Art Studios helps demystify the creative process, inviting people into the artists’ studios to see how the work is created — to smell the paint, see glass blown, touch the sculpture, watch the raw materials become a work of art or craft. Open Studios also accommodates artists without a dedicated studio space, gathering artists in group studio sites at such locations as the Children’s Museum, Madison Senior Center, Vilas Zoo and Cherokee Country Club.
A Growing Arts Phenomenon
Over the past seven years, Open Studios has grown from a small event with 30 artists opening their studios to a festival that fills three floors of the downtown Madison Overture Center and exposes the community to over 130 artists in Greater Madison. In 2009 over 15,000 people visited artist studios and over 8,000 saw the Overture exhibition.
